After searching for the perfect expense tracker in Notion for several months, I found that the current trackers were either too complex (requiring formulas to customize) or too simplistic (not helping to track money coming in or out). So, I decided to build my own expense tracker to solve these two problems.
Before having this template, I:
– Didn’t know where my money was going
– Didn’t know if I was spending more than what I was earning
– Was unable to see trends in my spending
– Had difficulty entering data from my phone
– Couldn’t edit the data to my liking
After having this template, I:
– Was motivated to see my net-worth turn green over time
– Could see my net-worth, income, and expenses
– Could easily see my spending trends
– Could easily input data from my phone
To solve these issues, I started with a Beginner’s Tracker. This tracker has all the necessary spend categories and the 12 most common categories, so that I can track my expenses. This tracker will only track the money going out of my life, which will help me become more conscious of my future spendings. There are 3 views: By Month, By Category and Default view. The bottom row will automatically calculate the amount each month.
Next, I moved on to the Intermediate Expense Tracker. This tracker adds the ability to add income, investments, calculate the remaining balance, and see if I’m saving anything in a month.
Finally, I used the Advanced Expense Tracker. This tracker is built to provide value in my life, helping me make the next right decision. It calculates my net worth, manages my loans, investments, insurances, liabilities, and monthly expenses. It has 4 databases: Loans, Insurances, Investments and Liabilities. The Net Worth View calculates my investments, insurance cover, and loans to tell me my actual net worth. Everything I need is accessible in the dashboard.
